Community Involvement

Public Service is a very important component of our department. Our goal is to expand humanity’s awareness of our physical universe; whether this knowledge is found shining billions of light years away, or locked in a glass of drinking water on the table before you. We are here to educate.

Many of our research centers and facilities provide public activities and programs along with educational resources to area schools, such as:

  • Class instruction ideas and materials
  • Lab and field equipment for class demonstrations
  • Traveling physics road show
  • Public star gazing parties
  • Year-round planetarium shows

To contact the department concerning any of the above services, please call 207-581-1039 or e-mail physics@maine.edu.
