Newsworthy Notes - S. David Dvorak, Ph.D. '98

Dvorak Receives Fulbright Scholar Grant

David DvorakS. David Dvorak, director of the UMaine School of Engineering Technology and professor of mechanical engineering technology, has received a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture and conduct alternative energy research at the University of Akureyri in Iceland during the upcoming year. An expert in alternative energy, specifically fuel cell technology, Dvorak intends to continue his work with researchers in Iceland and help develop a new graduate program at the University of Akureyri. The Icelandic university recently opened a new School of Renewable Energy Resources, with a focus on developing new energy sources, including geothermal, hydro, wind, tides, solar, biomass, fuel cells and hydrogen. Dvorak, who has been on the faculty at UMaine for 19 years, expects his research to benefit both the university and the state.
