Transfer of Learning in physics education research & curriculum development
ABSTRACT
Transfer of learning, described by some as the overarching goal of education is often defined as the application of knowledge learned in one context to a different context. I will present transfer of learning as an overarching theme that integrates some of the diverse projects of the KSU Physics Education Group over the past three years. I will discuss the traditional and contemporary perspectives on transfer of learning and how they have informed our research and curriculum development efforts in helping students learn the physical principles underlying everyday phenomena and in problem solving. Examples of research-based educational materials and their impact on student learning will also be presented.
