People - Graduate Students - Graduate Research Expo 2002
The Department of Physics & Astronomy was proud to sponsor nine graduate students at the Graduate Research Expo on April 22nd and 23rd, 2002 in Wells Commons. One student gave an Oral Presentation, and seven had Poster Presentations. Jesse Johnson won First Prize with his poster presentation on "Reproduction of the Ross Ice Streams Using a Basal Water Model for Ice Sheets", and Vincente Guiseppe won Second Prize for his poster presentation. "A Study of Radon Gas Release from Water-Use Appliances in Maine Schools". The oral presentation was given by Subramanian Vaitheeswaran on "Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Water Between Plates".
A complete list of participants is as follows:
- Luke Doucette, "Development of Multi-Layered Chemical Sensing Films on Silicon Substrates", Robert Lad, advisor.
- Jan Fiala, "The Phase Transition in Statistical Models Defined on Farey Fractions", Peter Kleban, advisor.
- Ivan Georgiev, "The Effect of Noise on the Phase Transitions in Driven Lattice Gas", Susan McKay, advisor.
